Rooted in Kindness, Growing Together

The “Neighborhood Blooms” Yard Share Program transforms unused yard spaces into vibrant flower gardens that bring joy and connection to our community.

Homeowners donate underutilized yard space, while volunteers plant, maintain, and harvest specialty cut flowers.

What Makes the Perfect Yard?

  • Full Sun: At least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily for flowers to thrive.

  • Level Ground: A flat, even surface makes planting and maintenance easier.

  • Water Access: A nearby hose hookup or irrigation helps keep the garden blooming.

  • Size Matters: A minimum of 750 sq ft, with 500 sq ft for cut flowers and 250 sq ft for a native plant border.

Have some extra yard space, but don’t check all the boxes? Join the Grow and Give program!

You’ll learn how to plan and create a thriving garden of your own to share with your community!

Steps to Share Your Yard

  1. Submit an Intake Form: Complete the Yard Share Intake form in order for us to learn more about your yard’s conditions (sun, slope, water access, etc.).

  2. Site Assessment: If your yard fits, we’ll schedule a visit to review the space, answer questions, and finalize agreements.

  3. Design & Plan: Our garden team will draft a custom garden plan, timeline, and maintenance schedule for your space.

  4. Start Growing: We’ll plant, maintain, and harvest the garden, keeping communication open throughout the season.

  5. End-of-Season Feedback: Share your thoughts and decide if you’d like to renew for the next year.

How are the flowers used?

1.

A portion of the flowers grown and harvested from donated yards are used for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) bouquet subscriptions. Supporters choose the frequency of fresh, local bouquets for local pickup or delivery. These funds create revenue to directly support our programs. This innovative approach combines community connection, sustainability, and beauty, supporting our mission to spread joy and kindness through flowers.

By subscribing to the CSA or sharing your yard, you’re helping foster a stronger, more connected Grand Rapids.

2.

The remaining flowers are used to create beautiful bouquets and arrangements for charitable giving. These heartfelt donations go to local community partners like senior centers, nonprofits, and neighborhood organizations to uplift and spread joy to our community.
